At Comfort Dental of Anderson Indiana Sealants are recommended for children and adults who are prone to cavities. Decay is most prevalent in the back teeth(premolars and molars) because that's where deep grooves form on the biting surfaces. Plaque collects in these grooves and causes cavities. To keep healthy teeth cavity free, ask your dentist to place sealants to the chewing surfaces. This prevents bacteria from sticking around long enough to cause damage, thus keeping the teeth cavity free.
Sealing teeth is quick and easy. A family dentist simply brushes the quick-drying light cured liquid onto the teeth, shines a light on it and presto- it hardens on top of the teeth. And it's pain free!!!!!

To help ensure dental health and and lifetime of good dental care habits:
-Limit childrens's sugar intake
-Make sure children get enough flouride, wither through drinking water or as a     treatment at the dentist office.
-Teach children how to brush and floss correctly
-Surpervise brushing sessions and help with flossing, which can be a challenge for small hands.

Research suggest a strong link between plaque on your teeth and heart disease. The plaque harbors bacteria, and some medical experts believe that when the bacteria enter your bloodstream, they help form blood clots in your coronary artiers, which can cause heart attacks. This is another reason to have routine dental care at your dentist office.

According to the American Dental Association, smoking and drinking alcohol cause an estimated 75 percent of oral cancer in the United States. Don't think that chewing tobacco is safe; it has also been linked to cancer. The easiest solution is to never smoke or use tobacco products.

With any cancer early detection is key, so keep those dental appointments. Your Dentist can often can spot the signs during a routine checkup.

Also the American Dental Association recommends that you should have your dentist examine any new sore, lump, or discoloration in you mouth that hasn't disappeared within two weeks of discovery. Unless the dentist can identify it definitvely , it should be biopsied.

Main causes of discolored teeth.

Genetics- Some people are just born with teeth that aren't particularly white. This can be improved with the variety of teeth whitening products

Trauma-  Teeth that have been broken, chipped, or hit in an accident can discolor. Silver and composite fillings and root canal fillings can also discolor teeth. These teeth can be improved with some teeth whitening products and some help from your cosmetic dentist.

External staining- Stains occur from smoking or drinking beverages such as coffee or tea. Most of the time these stains can be handled with routine dental care.

If you've lost all of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, complete dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. You'll be able to eat and speak- things that people often take for granted until their natural teeth are lost. Contact Comfort Dental of Anderson for more information.

Invisalign moves your teeth with a series of customized, nearly invisible teeth aligners. It is changing how many adults are dealing with cosmetic options. For the most part, Invisalign is fast, easy and invisible. In addition to being nearly invisible, they are removeable, which is especially good for eating and for home dental care (brushing and flossing). Contact Comfort Dental of Anderson for more information on Invisalign.

There are many positives to Dental Implants. Dental implants are the most similar to natural teeth. They can be placed without altering or grinding down adjacent teeth. Implants also prevent shrinkage of the jawbone caused by tooth loss. The biggest downside to dental implants is that they are more expensive than other options although in my experience, nearly 100% of patients agree that they are worth it.

Patients can be sedated for dental care. There are broken-down smiles getting worse all because fear of the dentist. But once they get comfortable with sedation dentistry they are on there way to a healthy smile.

Using Halcion is my favorite type of dental sedation. I have the patient arrive at the dental office one hour before his/her dental care appointment. We then administer one halcion pill and to ensure safety, we place the patient on a monitor called a pulse oximeter which measure heart rate, blood oxygen levels and blood pressure. Within a half hour the patient starts to understand why we call it sedation dentistry. They become very relaxed and some people even fall asleep during the dental care. The greatest benefit from this drug is most patients do not remember anything about the dental care or even the dental office itself.

For the dentophobic, sedation dentistry is the way to go. Check out www.sedationdocs.com.

Dental Implants replace lost or missing teeth. Dental Implants are precision-crafted pieces of titanium that are surgically placed beneath the gums to fuse to the jawbone. Dental Implants in effect are artificial tooth roots, to which a new tooth is attached. At Comfort Dental of Anderson, we use Dental Implants to replace one or more missing teeth, to support non-removable permanent bridges for multiple teeth, or to better support a full or partial denture. Dental Implants can be placed with the patient awake however, many patients prefer to have the Dental surgery done with sedation dentistry. In general, patients are amazed the day after the leave the dentist office there is little or no pain. Like natural teeth, Dental Implants require normal dental care (brushing flossing) and regular visits the your dental office or dental clinic.

Tooth whitening is the most common cosmetic dental procedure done today. You have three main choices, depending on your budget and lifestyle.

You can whiten your teeth by an average of eight shades in about an hour with in-office whitening treatment. Or, you can wear teeth-whitening trays during the day or while you sleep using a take-home whitening kit from your dentist. There are also over the counter products available at some drug stores, but these are less effective and have some risk.

Veneers are probably the most aesthetically pleasing cosmetic dentistry option to shape up your smile. They are ultra thin, custom made laminates that are fixed directly to the teeth. They are a great durable option for changing the size, shape, position and color of teeth.

Veneers are used to close gaps, straighten teeth, replace worn edges, or resurface discolored teeth. The best candidates for all veneers are people whose teeth are healthy and free of decay and gum disease.
